The flooding in southern Louisiana is well known to everyone by now, and it has affected many, including Buckwheat Zydeco.  To make matters even more difficult, his cancer has returned (warning: Advertiser page).  There are currently two GoFundMe appeals currently available to contribute:  In Support of Buckwheat Zydeco created by Cynthia Simien and Buckwheat Zydeco and Family (created by “Tomorrow Dural”).  I am not endorsing either of these campaigns, but want to make others aware of them.

Wonderful news!  The great zydeco accordionist Buckwheat Zydeco has been declared free of cancer!  And he continues his seemingly-interminable touring with dates all over the U.S. and Canada through at least August.

NOLA.com is reporting that Stanley “Buckwheat Zydeco” Dural is in treatment for cancer.  It is in an early stage, so treatment should be successful.  All scheduled performances have been cancelled until at least this summer.  Leave a message on Facebook.  The Alligator Records page still includes some February performance dates, but I’m sure they’ll update it shortly.  Dural has recorded for many labels, such as Alligator, Rounder and Tomorrow, as well as locals like Blues Unlimited.  He played keyboards behind Clifton Chenier for many years.   His sound has been more towards rock and roll the past ten years or so, with covers of Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones.  Our best wishes go out to Dural for a speedy recovery!  Go buy one of his recordings if you don’t have any – you won’t be sorry.
