It began in 1985, with the publication of its first volume, but the Dictionary of American Regional English has completed its work with the word ‘zydeco.’ We know that zydeco is sometimes the be all and end all, but scholars have been tracking down and defining regional words and phrases for all that time. Do you drink a soda pop, a cold drink or something else? The country is big enough to have considerable variation in the use of words and phrases. Ask for it at your local library!
