The Louisiana Folklife Center’s 2012 festival will be held July 20-21 at Prather Coliseum on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.  The theme is “Celebrating Louisiana’s Folk Music”  and promises to be full of Cajun, Louisiana Creole, zydeco, bluegrass, gospel, jazz and other forms of music that are native to our state.   Guests will include Feufollet, Chubby Carrier, and Ray Abshire.  The state fiddle championship will take place during the festival.  Natchitoches is a lovely little city, and the oldest permanent settlement in the Mississippi River Valley, four years earlier than New Orleans.  It is pronounced ‘nack-a-tish.’
