Ville Platte (‘Flat town’ in English) is towards the northern end of the Cajun triangle.  The triangle stretches from Beaumont, Texas in the west along the Louisiana coast to New Orleans in the east, and northward to just shy of Alexandria, Louisiana.  It’s about an hour north of Lafayette.  Ville Platte is the home of Floyd Soileau’s Swallow, Maison de Soul and other record labels and a retail music store (careful, music player loads and starts without warning).   It is also the home of radio station KVPI-AM.   They broadcast French-language news and music, including the famous live broadcast from Fred’s Lounge in Mamou, LA, Saturdays from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Central Time.  Yes, you can listen to them live.  It’s mostly country music, but check out Monday to Friday, 4:00 to 5:00 pm, and Saturday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Central U.S. Time, for Cajun music.
