Here’s a short article about the inestimable Balfa Brothers in the wonderful esoteric music blog, Holy Warbles (at least that’s what it looks like with an English alphabet; looks like they use Cyrillic letters).   The brothers (yes, they really were brothers) essential CD is entitled The Balfa Brothers Play Traditional Cajun Music – Volume 1 & 2.  The Balfas are often credited for bringing Cajun music back from the brink of extinction in the late sixties and early seventies.  That may or may not be accurate, but they certainly were a crystallizing presence, bringing Cajun music to the rest of the country (and beyond).  Two of the brothers were killed in a single automobile accident in 1979.  Survivor Dewey Balfa became the ambassador for Cajun music worldwide, until his death in 1992.  Daughter Christine founded the group Balfa, Toujours (“Balfa forever” now written without the comma) to carry on the name and the music.
