Here’s Cajun great Dewey Balfa with the song J’ai etais au bal (or I went to the dance). It’s from the 1979 Port Townsend, Washington Fiddle Tunes Festival. But, wait, what’s the other fellow doing? He’s striking the violin with two violin bows, as Dewey plays. This creates a unique and striking sound, rarely heard in Cajun music. As the caption says “Clip is taken from Yasha Aginsky’s documentary ‘Les Blues de Balfa.'” It is used in Dewey’s 1991 CD Cajun Legend, track 17, Cajun fiddlesticks.
