Doug Kershaw is seventy-five years young today! Kershaw is the first Cajun artist I ever saw – back at LSU in about 1971 or so. He tore up the stage and the crowd. Kershaw is a real performer and crowd pleaser. He is far from a traditional artist; that and his long tenure living outside of Louisiana place him on the periphery of modern Cajun music. But scan auction sites for Cajun albums, and his name comes up more than anyone else’s. Wikipedia lists fifteen albums released from 1979 to 1989, but I know this is far from complete. He was a special guest at the 2009 Festivals Acadiens et Créoles, seen playing here. Bon fête, Doug!
