The 24th Zydeco Extravaganza is set for May 30, 2010 at the Evangeline Downs Racetrack. Tickets are on sale in Lafayette and Opelousas. There will be one side and one outside stage. Evangeline Downs is in Opelousas, north of Lafayette along I-49 less than an hour’s ride. This event is a major competitor to the Labor Day Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Festival. Artists scheduled to appear include Geno Delafose, Keith Frank, Chris Ardoin, and Nathan Williams. Last year’s attendance was about 4000; they hope for 6000 this year. Advance tickets are $15 from the Don Cravins Insurance Agency offices in Lafayette and Opelousas; no note on cost of tickets at the door. In the past this event was held at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette. There will be a dance the evening before at the old Richard’s Club in Lawtell. No word on who will be playing.
As the web site says: For more info call 337-594-3137 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. The web site features steaming music and photos of dancers and empty beer suitcases. Looks like they have a linoleum tile floor over concrete. Bring your lawn chairs. Should be a blast!
