Jimmy C. Newman, guitarist and singer, turns 82 years old on Thursday, August 27th.  He’s spent most of his life in Nashville.  His work is on the country side of Cajun, with titles like “Slippin’ into Slidell.”  The Ace reissue, Lache Pas La Patate, does have a number of great old tunes, and fine musicians, like Rufus Thibodeaux on fiddle.  It’s his work mixed with a number of Vin Bruce tunes, but at 30 tracks, it’s worth it.   More info:  Wikipedia (discography only goes up to 1981), CMT.  One of the few Cajun artists to play the Grand Ole Opry.

Some of his recent recordings are available from the Louisiana Music Factory.  Be sure to search “Jimmy C. Newman” for his name.  Nothing else works.
